DIFICID is a narrow spectrum antibacterial indicated for treatment of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). It has a minimal impact on normal gut flora. The recommended dosage regimen is 200mg twice daily for 10 days. DIFICID provides an important treatment option for CDAD.

DIFICID® (fidaxomicin) is a macrolide antibacterial indicated for the treatment of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) in adults 18 years or older. DIFICID tablets contain 200mg of fidaxomicin as the active ingredient.

Dosage Forms and Strengths

DIFICID is available as 200mg tablets. Tablets are oval, film-coated, and pinkish in color.

Dosage and Administration

The recommended dosage of DIFICID is 200mg (one tablet) taken orally twice daily with or without food for 10 days. DIFICID should not be taken with dairy products (e.g. milk, yogurt, ice cream).

Contraindications

DIFICID is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fidaxomicin.

Warnings and Precautions

– Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea patients may experience multiple recurrences after stopping fidaxomicin. If this occurs, patients should restart fidaxomicin.

– Caution should be used when administering fidaxomicin to patients with severe renal impairment.

Adverse Reactions

The most common adverse reactions in clinical trials (>2%) were nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, anemia, and neutropenia.

Drug Interactions

DIFICID should not be co-administered with any antibacterial drugs. Concurrent use may result in altered efficacy. Probenecid may decrease efficacy and should not be co-administered.

Storage and Handling

Store DIFICID tablets at 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F).
