Fast-Acting Relief for Acute Migraine Attacks
Description
Treximet combines sumatriptan, a serotonin (5-HT) receptor agonist, and naproxen sodium, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), to provide dual-action relief for migraine attacks with or without aura in adults and pediatric patients 12 years and older.
Uses
- Acute treatment of migraines with or without aura
- Reduces inflammation and pain associated with migraines
- Fast onset for effective symptom relief
🚫 Not for migraine prevention or treatment of cluster headaches.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 tablet of 85 mg sumatriptan / 500 mg naproxen sodium
- If needed, a second dose can be taken after 2 hours (Max: 2 tablets per 24 hours)
- Pediatrics (12-17 years old): 1 tablet of 10 mg sumatriptan / 60 mg naproxen sodium
- Max: 1 tablet per 24 hours
- Take with or without food; do not split, crush, or chew.
Warnings & Precautions
⚠️ Serious Cardiovascular & Gastrointestinal Risks
- NSAIDs increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Not for use in patients with heart disease, stroke history, uncontrolled hypertension, or severe liver disease.
- Avoid if allergic to aspirin, NSAIDs, or sumatriptan.
Possible Side Effects
- Common: Dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, drowsiness
- Less Common but Serious: Chest pain, shortness of breath, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure
Drug Interactions
- Do not take with other triptans or ergot-based migraine medications.
- Avoid use with blood thinners, SSRIs/SNRIs, or diuretics without medical advice.
