Imiquimod stimulates the body’s immune system to fight HPV infections and abnormal skin cell growths. Treatment response varies based on condition and patient factors. Improvement may not be seen for weeks to months after starting.
Common side effects include redness, swelling, crusting/scaling, itching, and burning at the application site. Less serious side effects include headache, back pain, muscle aches, upset stomach, or cold/flu symptoms. Avoid sun exposure and unprotected sex while using Aldara.
