Ubrelvy (ubrogepant) is a prescription medication used to treat acute migraine headaches in adults. It belongs to a class of drugs known as CGRP antagonists and works by blocking the activity of a protein called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) that is involved in causing migraine headaches.
Ubrelvy is taken orally as a tablet, and the recommended dose is 50 mg (available in the future) or 100 mg taken as soon as possible after the onset of a migraine headache. A second dose may be taken after two hours if needed, but patients should not take more than 200 mg in a 24-hour period.
Clinical studies have shown that Ubrelvy is effective at reducing pain and other symptoms of migraine headaches, such as nausea, light sensitivity, and sound sensitivity. It is also generally well-tolerated, with few side effects reported.
Some common side effects of Ubrelvy may include nausea, dizziness, and dry mouth. Serious side effects are rare, but patients should seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or an allergic reaction.
