Medical Abortion with Mifegymiso® – the Abortion Pill(s)

You can now get Mifegymiso (mif-ee-GYE-mee-soh), mifepristone and misoprostol)…directly from your pharmacy and not just from prescriber’s office.
Mifegymiso® can now be used within the first 9 weeks of pregnancy…instead of just within the first 7 weeks.
It is a combo regimen…with one mifepristone tab in the green box and four misoprostol tabs in the orange box.
Women are to take the mifepristone tablet with a glass of water on day one. After 24 to 48 hours, place all four misoprostol tablets between your cheeks and gums for 30 minutes, and then swallow any fragments with some water.
Cramping and vaginal bleeding usually start within a few hours after taking misoprostol…and last about 11 days.
You will a follow-up appointment within 7 to 14 days with your doctor to make sure everything went well!
Fertility can return shortly after finishing the Mifegymiso ®regimen.
Oral contraceptives can be started the day after taking the misoprostol tablets…or an IUD can be inserted as soon as one week after or at the follow-up visit.
